These Are Not Optional for a Jesus Disciple …

Love the people that are your enemy. Do good to the people who hate you. Bless the people who persecute and curse you. Pray for the people who abuse you.

Do you realize none of these are optional for an Apprentice (Disciple) of Jesus?

You don’t have the freedom to decide if you want to do these or not.

You must to these. You have to do these.

Over the past month God has made this clear to me that my character needs some significant transformation in this area.

So … I put together a list of people who have cursed me, abused me, talked negatively about me to others, intentionally placed obstacles in my way, people who may be considered enemies (okay, especially not proud I even have people in this category — but truth is truth).

Every day, I select at least one name from the list and spend time praying for them and blessing them. Somedays are easier and some days are more difficult for me to do this.

Easy or difficult seems to be more about where I am than the name(s) I select for that day.

It’s about Character Transformation to be like my Master (Jesus). Which is the goal of discipleship or apprenticeship to Jesus (at least it is according to Jesus Mt 10:24, Lk 6:40)

For those who are wondering if you made my list. Here is the litmus test.

I don’t send out Christmas cards. So if you get a Christmas card from me this year, you know you made my list.
