What Is God Asking of You?

Ever thought about, “What is God asking of you?”

I think most of the time we are asking the question, “What am I asking of God?”

We’re thinking about, What can God do for me? What can I get from God? How can God help me out?

Rarely, if ever, do we think “What is God asking of me?”

Look at your prayers. What is the content of your prayers? God do this. God do that. God help me do this or that. God help in this situation.

How often do you ask, “God, what are you asking of me?”

God has given you talents (skills, abilities, capabilities) and He wants you to use them for making His Name great and His Salvation known among every group of people in the world.

He is asking of you to Go and be part of making disciples of every group of people in the world. (Mt 28:18–20)

So that His Name will be worshipped from the rising to the setting of the sun by people from every group of people in the world. (Mal 1:11)

So that there will be people from every group of people in the world around the Throne worshipping God forever. (Rev 5:9, 7:9–10)

God has given you His talents to manage for Him for His purpose.

You are going to have to stand before Him and give an accounting of how you managed His resources for His purposes. How you did (or didn’t do) what He is asking of you.

Jesus tells a story about three servants entrusted with different amounts of the master’s resources to manage for the the master. (Mt 25:14–30)

For many of us I’m afraid we are going to have stand before Him and say, “I was afraid to do what you asked me so I hid the talents in the ground.”

“I was afraid of other’s opinions. I was afraid of being uncomfortable. I was afraid of feeling awkward. I was afraid of being rejected. I was afraid of being embarrassed. I was afraid of losing friends. I was afraid of being excluded from the group. I was afraid of …”

Because of our fear to act we won’t hear “Well done good and faithful servant enter into the joy of your Master.”

We will hear, “You wicked and lazy servant … cast this wicked servant into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

I know this doesn’t line up with the prevalent message of God is love and He forgives everything so don’t worry about doing what He says.

But Jesus does use this story to explain what the Kingdom of Heaven is like.

In the story it wasn’t about how many talents you start with. It’s about how you multiply the talents God has entrusted you to manage for His purpose.

It’s His talents that we are managing for His Purpose … Not for our purpose.

Think about how it will be to stand before the King of kings and Lord of Lords, your Savior, your Master and have to admit …

“I was afraid so I hid your talent in the ground. Even after all You’ve done for me.”

Wow!!! The weight I feel when I think of having to admit that is crushing.

When you surrendered to Jesus you enlisted as a soldier in a war. And, as a soldier in God’s army, you have a job to do and a responsibility to carry out. Your fellow soldiers are counting on you.

It’s not a game. It’s not a feel good adventure we’re on.

We are still on this earth for a reason. And the battle is real. We are engaged in this war until the day we leave this earth.

Ask God, “God what are You asking of me?”

Then be quiet and listen with pen and paper near by to record what He says.
